Building upon an interdisciplinary background as an architect and planner, Rodrigo Cardoso’s research focuses on the spatial, functional, demographic, social and political dimensions of metropolisation processes.

His work has recently resulted in a chapter on metropolisation, to be published in a forthcoming International Handbook on Megacity-Regions. The chapter is a worthwhile reading for all Planning Complex Cities students as it is designed as an accessible and comprehensive introduction to the concept ‘metropolisation’!

Over recent months Rodrigo has also actively advanced critical thinking about the impact that COVID-19 has on the spatial-economic configuration of cities. A bundle of essays, which he accomplished together with students in his MSc Urban Geography course, is a great inspiration to all who intend to learn lessons from this pandemic. A summary of all of Rodrigo’s publications and interests can be found on his researchgate site.
