Via this post we would like to introduce Juliana Goncalves as a new member of our Planning Complex Cities mentor team. Please note that Juliana has joined the section of Spatial Planning and Strategy only recently and is therefore not listed in the 2022/23 MSc Urbanism graduation semester book. She will however be available as a second mentor of graduation students in this academic year.

Dr. Juliana Goncalves is an Assistant Professor in the section of Spatial Planning and Strategy, Department of Urbanism, TU Delft. She has a diverse background with expertise in socio-technical systems, urban data science, and policy analysis. Her research interests include urban inequalities & spatial justice; climate change adaptation & urban resilience; just energy transition; housing & buildings; public participation & citizen empowerment; and related planning and policy implications. She looks at these questions from a socio-spatial perspective, often combining quantitative and qualitative research methods. Some of the projects she is involved with are (1) Citizen Voice – developing an open-source map-based platform for public participation, (2) Sponge Cities – a flagship project under the Climate Action Program of TU Delft, (3) SIA-City – a socio-spatial framework to evaluate and monitor inequalities in cities and support integrated urban planning. Juliana is interested in working with graduate students who identify with the topics/projects above, but she is also open to new adventures, particularly if it involves urban design.
