On 8 April 2020 Planning Complex Cities students gathered to discuss activities that can support graduation under current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic circumstances. Students came up with a name for what they are missing: Smart breaks – moments to lean back, to forget the pressure under which they currently work, to reflect, and to enjoy the academic setting that they came to experience at TU Delft in the first place. The format of Smart Breaks – casual online-discussions on issues at the core of graduation students’ interest – was invented. Although not being able to fully replace the informal meetings that happen in a physical university setting, it proved to be a setting for valuable moments of exchange.
