
Luiz Carvalho’s research focuses on the connections between planning, design and regulation in the context of Latin America. His recent work aims at understanding how urbanization impacts social and spatial fragmentation. This interest is explored at both, the building typology scale and the regional and metropolitan scale. His academic and professional background crosses disciplines from architecture to spatial planning, and involves knowledge about private and public sectors. He has also worked on many international projects. As the coordinator of the European Post-master in Urbanism (EMU) program he participated in activities in China, Italy, the Netherlands and Suriname. A summary of his involvement can be found here.
