We are proud to announce another acknowledgement of the academic quality of Planning Complex Cities graduations! Drawing on his graduation work, Henry Endemann, 2020 alumni Planning Complex Cities graduation student and now PhD candidate at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Lei QU, his former 1st mentor and Assistant Professor at Delft University of Technology, have received a Best Paper Award by the International Forum of Urbanism (IFOU). Their contribution, titled Village-revitalization in Chinese megaregions in the era of digitalization – Seeking sustainable strategies for Jing-Jin-Ji, investigates the digital dimension of strategies to increase the wealth of Chinese village communities in the greater Beijing region, e.g. e-commerce, agro-tourism, and the attraction of the “creative class”. Conclusions stress that digitalization can accelerate village revitalization, but needs to be combined with proactive planning approaches.
